Libera me, Domine, de morte aeterna
in die illa tremenda
quando coeli movendi sunt et terra,
dum veneris judicare saeculum per ignem.

Tremens factus sum ego et timeo,
dum discussion venerit atque venture ira:
quando coeli movendi sunt et terra.

Long long ago Domine, the sun god, and Spirit, the moon goddess lived with the Angels lived peacefully in Eden. Domine and Spirit grew bored and created Gaia. Two creatures were the highest, the Wolves of Spirit and the Humans of Domine. Wolves weiled magic and chose to live in the mountains and forests. Humans weiled technology and lived in their created cities of brick and steel. Each hated the other and sought to destroy until the Angels had to step in and created Balance.

So the Wolves remained in their forest and mountain homes, and the humans remained in their cities with the Angels keeping guard to make sure balance was kept. Astuacta, the human city and Brim'herig, the wolfen terra were one such grouping of Human and Wolf in close strife. Brim'herig had long ago been claimed by a wolfess who was part angel herself. Many years had passed since then; packs had grown, divided, and diminished many times in the long history of the land. Just as Astuacta had grown in the many years since its founding.

Behind each other's backs, Domine and Spirit granted each of their creatures a power that would break the balance, but ended in balancing each other out. Spirit granted the wolves with a curse. By birth or bite, they could assume human and half-ling forms. And Domine gave certain humans the ability to weild magic, be it elemental, or shifting. The Weres and the Mages were formed, making the balance harder to keep.
